Ginkos have separate Female and male trees. Males have catkins, females have green ovules hanging from their branches. In order to produce seeds you must have both a female and male tree. When trees are pollinated they develop a fleshy fruit that has a smelly pulp. It take 15-20 years before a ginko will bear fruit. The seeds are edible, after cooking and the leaves are used medicinally to enhance brain function.
